History

Date of Establishment
LOGOS University College is a private nonprofit higher education institution established in 2008 with its headquarter located in Tirana, Albania.
It is the activity of the LOGOS FOUNDATION which is registered as a legal entity (Tirana District Court, Decision No. 284 of 26.06.2008) and it is licensed to carry out its educational purpose (Decision of the Council of Ministers no.1055, of 29.07.2009 on “Licensing ‘Logos’ Higher Educational Institution "Logos" HEI)”.

The Founder
LOGOS University College was founded by Emer. Prof. Dr. Anastasios Yannoulatos, Archbishop of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania and President of LOGOS Foundation. Archbishop Anastasios is a prominent scholar who has served as Professor of History of Religions at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (1972-92) and today is Professor Emeritus of the same University and Honorary Member of the Academy of Athens. Honorary Senator of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts – Salzburg (2019-). He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates of Theology or Philosophy from twenty universities, university schools, or departments (from Greece, U.S.A., Cyprus, Romania, Georgia, Albania, and Italy).

He is a member of many international scholarly societies. He has been repeatedly elected to distinguished positions of leadership in international organizations. He has been Vice-President of the Conference of European Churches, (2003-2009), President of the World Council of Churches (2006-2013).

He has been honored with the medals and awards of many Orthodox Churches and various countries (30) Albania included.

He is Honorary President of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (since 2006). He is a member of many international scholarly societies. His contributions to Theology, to contemporary witness, to inter-Christian rapprochement, to the inter-Christian dialogue, and to the peaceful coexistence of people have been recognized internationally.

Educational Initiatives
LOGOS University College constitutes a significant contribution of its founder and of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania to the youth and more broadly to the society of Albania through education at all levels. Based upon the pedagogical principal that the proper education of decent and creative citizens starts early from the first stages of life, the founder of Logos Foundation since 1994, founded and supports until today 21 pre-schools in Tirana and in various cities, three primary schools, and five secondary schools in Tirana, Korça, and Gjirokaster. In 1992, a 4-year post-secondary Theological Academy was founded and continues to operate at the Shen Vlash Monastery. From 2000 until 2013, an “Institute of Vocational Training” “Spirit of Love”, functioned in Tirana and Gjirokaster, from which 1,276 students graduated only in Tirana and were directly employed in the labor market.

In 2008, following the development of the educational system inAlbania, LOGOS Foundation was established and based on the experience and success of the “Institution of Vocational Training” “Spirit of Love”, LOGOS University College was established, consisting at that time of two Faculties: Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Economics. In year 2018 also the Faculty of Humanities and Linguistic Communication is added.

Name and Motto
The name LOGOS and the accompanying motto, “light and the power of life”, summarize in a few words the meaning and purpose of a dynamic academic establishment with an open perspective: The enrichment of human thoughts, research, expansion of knowledge, the training of new qualified persons who will work and contribute to the multifaceted development of the modern society. These new graduates will take advantage in a creative way of the gift of logos (reason), welling up inspiration, and power from the eternal Logos who offers light and the power of life.

Faculties - Departments - Study Programs
LOGOS University College is a non-profit private academic institution. Logos University College is accredited as an institution and through its organizational structure offers accredited study programs in the first and second cycles. Its study programs are in accordance with the needs of the society and aspire to knowledge, innovation, research, practical exercise, employment in the labor market, the promotion of human values and culture.

A. First cycle study programs in the Faculty of Applied Informatics and Faculty of Economics

A1. Since 2010 by the Ordinance of the Minister of Education and Science no, 396, of 02.08.2010, "Logos" HEI) these faculties offer:
a) Bachelor in Applied Informatics (Faculty of Applied Sciences)
b) Bachelor in Tourism Management.(Faculty of Economics)

A2. Since 2011 by the Ordinance of the Minister of Education and Science no 1, of 06.01.2011, "Logos" HEI there were added two new study programs respectively in the Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Applied Sciences:
c) Bachelor in Finance and Accounting (Faculty of Economics)
d) Bachelor in Business Management (Faculty of Economics)
e) Bachelor in Higher Medical Laboratory Technician (Faculty of Applied Sciences)

A3. Since 2018 the study programs offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Linguistic Communication:
a) Bachelor in Studies in Social Theology and Religious Sciences (based on Ordinance of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth No. 192, dated 20.04.2018 it is a study program offered by the Department of Social Theology and Religious Sciences (now Department of Theology ad Culture)
b) Bachelor in Greek Language and Civilization (based on Ordinance of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth No. 433, dated 20.07.2018 it is a study program offered by the Department of Languages and Literature (currently the Department of Languages and Literature))
c) Bachelor in teacher for Preschool Education (based on Ordinance of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth No. 432, dated 20.07.2018 it is a study program offered by the Department of Preschool Education (now Department of Pedagogy and Psychology)
c) Bachelor in Social Work (based on Ordinance of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth No. 455, dated 26.07.2022 it is a study program offered by the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology

A4. Since 2019 based on Ordinance of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth No. 405, dated 25.07.2019 it is offered by the Department of Agrobusiness, the study program:
a) Professional study program in Agrobusiness with profiles “Marketing of agricultural product” and “Agricultural farm management”.

B. Second cycle study programs
Since 2013, by the Order of Minister of Education and Science no. 335, of 16.08.2013, ‘Logos’ Higher Educational Institution (HEI) offers:
a) Professional Master in Finance and Accounting (Faculty of Economics)
b) Professional Master in Higher Medical Laboratory Technician. (Faculty of Applied Sciences)
Since 2021, by the Order of Minister of Education and Science no. 374, of 23.09.2021, ‘Logos’ Higher Educational Institution (HEI) offers:
a) Master of Science in Religious Tourism (Faculty of Humanities and Linguistic Communication)

II. FACULTIES
In 2015 by the approval of the Law no. 80/2015 ‘On Higher Education and Research in Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Albania’, the legal status of the institution changed from Institution of Higher Education to University College with initially two Faculties. Currently LOGOS University College comprises three faculties: Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Humanities and Linguistic Communication.
